Stacy Compton was born and raised in the small town of Hurt, Virginia which is located along the beautiful Staunton River in southern Virginia.  Stacy comes from a hardworking tradition of self-reliance and from a family that has worked in the automotive, real-estate and cattle businesses for many years in south-central Virginia.  Even though Stacy has spent much of the last 14 years focused on a career in NASCAR that sees him spending much of his time on the road, Stacy has never considered leaving the area where he grew up. 

Staying true to his heritage, Stacy continues to raise pure-breed Black Angus Cattle as a hobby just a few miles from the farm on which he grew up.  On his farm, Stacy raises quail and pheasants for release to help to replenish the local populations which have nearly been irradiated through over hunting, fewer grain crops and loss of farm land.  Stacy also plants feeder crops for the deer, turkey and other wild life.  Along with 150+ head of cattle, the Compton Farm is home to two dogs, two cats, a llama, a miniature donkey, three horses and the many ducks and geese that have taken up residence on the fish ponds.

More importantly, the Compton Farm is home to Stacy, his wife Vickie, and their two daughters Olivia Grace (born December 7, 2004) and Isabella Reese (born June 3rd, 2007).  Most evenings you will find the family riding around on a "gator, watching the wildlife and teaching Olivia to appreciate and to respect the land that they call home.  Sometimes you might even catch Stacy and Olivia fishing in one of the ponds or picking vegetables or berries in the garden they plant and tend as a family.

Stacy is a 1985 graduate of Lynchburg Christian Academy (now Liberty Christian Academy).  He later married Vickie Younger, a local girl that he has known all of his life.  Before Vickie became a full-time mother and wife she worked as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

Stacy's Racing Career

Racing has been a lifelong passion for Stacy who first felt the need for speed as an 11 year old racing in the KART series.  Stacy competed for more than nine years in KART Racing, racking up more than 150 wins and 10 championships along the way.  In 1987 at the age of 20, Stacy's NASCAR career began with his first appearance in the Winston Racing Series (Late Model Stock). Stacy competed for 8 years in the Late Model Stock Series, compiling 36 victories, 93 poles and more than 150 top-five finishes!  Stacy won track championships at South Boston Speedway and New River Speedway. In 1996 Stacy moved up to the Sprint Cup Series, entering and qualifying for both of Martinsville races that year. 

In 1997 Stacy moved to the Camping World Truck Series where he ran a full schedule of 25 races driving under the sponsorship of Valvoline Quick Change Oil.  He was the only rookie and one of only seven drivers to make the field for every race based on his qualifying times.  In 1998 Stacy competed in the Camping World Truck Series again, this time under the new sponsorship of RC Cola, competing in all 27 races.  He finished the year with two wins, two poles, nine top-five and 14 top-10s, which resulted in a seventh place finish in the point standings.  Stacy was voted "Most Popular Driver" by his peers that same year.

In 1999, Stacy returned to the Camping World Truck Series and despite their fair share of bad luck, Stacy racked up impressive stats, qualifying only once outside of the top-10, and finishing second in that race.  By the end of the 1999 season, Stacy had the highest average starting position (4.9) in the history of the Camping World Truck Series, was sixth in 'most poles', 12th in 'most wins' and was in the top-10 in money earned all despite the fact that he did not compete in the first two years of Truck Series competition.

From 2000-2002 Stacy raced in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, running all the scheduled races (88 starts).  Stacy took the outside pole for the 2001 Daytona 500, the most prestigious race of the year, and went on to sweep both poles at Talladega Superspeedway the same year.

In 2002 Stacy began driving for Wood Brothers / JTG Racing, competing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. From 2002-2006 Stacy started 173 races, and in that time completed 96.3% of all laps run, using only four provision starting positions.  At the end of 2006 he had the longest running current relationship with a sponsor in the series (Kingsford Charcoal), and the second longest current streak in the Nationwide Series.  In 2007, Stacy ran a partial schedule of 14 races in the Camping World Truck Series, where he led four laps, and garnered one top-five and three top-10 finishes.  In 2008, Stacy again ran a limited schedule of 17 races in the Camping World Truck Series where he led 62 laps and grabbed four top-10s.  Stacy returned to the Camping World Truck Series full-time in 2009 after partnering with Wyler Racing.  Together, they finished 11th in the season ending point standings after finishing in the top-10 a total of nine times.
